Determine the sharp focus range in front of and behind your subject. Enter your lens settings and sensor size to get precise near limit, far limit, and total DoF.
Depth of field extends roughly 1/3 in front of and 2/3 behind your subject at typical distances. At close range and wide apertures, DoF becomes very thin — great for portraits but challenging for groups. The hyperfocal distance is where you can focus to maximize DoF from half that distance to infinity.
