Understanding Field of View

Field of view determines how much of a scene a lens captures. Wider lenses (short focal lengths) cover more area but exaggerate distances. Telephoto lenses (long focal lengths) magnify subjects and compress perspective. The diagonal FOV is most commonly compared to human vision at roughly 43-53°.
